Review of the scientific literature reveals few studies on the topic of annual food waste per capita, its association with Human Development Index and with other demographic characteristics. The aim of this study was to fill this gap. Therefore, the study investigated the relationship between six macroeconomic variables Rural Population, Urbanization Rate, Median age, Gross National Product per capita, HDI and, the annual food waste per capita. The primary purpose was to regrouping and labelling 34 world’s countries on the base of their minor or mayor human development and on their amount of annual food waste per capita. Data were collected by World Bank and by FAO statistics in reference to 2017. The findings resulting by the application of the multivariate analysis shows that the causes of the annual food waste per capita had a geographical variation and was mainly affect by demographic characteristic, by human development, and by the tradition and culture of each country considered.
