The courtly environment defined by the kings of Castile (Al- phonse X The Wise), and Portugal (Alphonse III) has been considered as the background of the Galician-Portuguese troubadour poetry, leading to the definition of ‘Alphonsine era’ (approx. from 1250 to 1280). However, while scholars have extensively studied the poets and the texts associated with the Castilian court, there is still the need for a complete and comprehensive analysis of the Portuguese one, taking into account both the authors who worked in this environment, the texts produced and the possible alternative settings in which troubadours could compose and perform. In this regard, the article proposes an initial examination of the main issues related to the subject topic, in the hope of laying the groundwork for future research.
