The Coronavirus has brutally highlighted the weaknesses of a lifestyle, of a model of economic development, on which we have built our certainties in the last two centuries and none of us could (perhaps) imagine it. The curators of “Viral Stories” wrote that we lived "in the illusion of a sort of omnipotence, thanks to the extraordinary progress in biomedical research and the development of ever more powerful, sophisticated and effective technologies. And yet the epidemic revealed to us that this omnipotence was perhaps a sort of collective delirium". Starting from these considerations the paper proposes a long-term reflection on how the European populations have managed health emergencies over the centuries.

Abstract
The Coronavirus has brutally highlighted the weaknesses of a lifestyle, of a model of economic development, on which we have built our certainties in the last two centuries and none of us could (perhaps) imagine it. The curators of “Viral Stories” wrote that we lived "in the illusion of a sort of omnipotence, thanks to the extraordinary progress in biomedical research and the development of ever more powerful, sophisticated and effective technologies. And yet the epidemic revealed to us that this omnipotence was perhaps a sort of collective delirium". Starting from these considerations the paper proposes a long-term reflection on how the European populations have managed health emergencies over the centuries.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
