starting from Sergio Cotta’s reflection on the «primacy of politics», the article aims to answer the following question: does politics have limits that perimeter its action or does it synthesize all social forms and subordinate them to its reasons? By ideally letting different thinkers dialogue, the author underlines the most evident trait of a conception of the social, which identifies the sphere of politics hierarchically higher than the other spheres. A primacy that, in Cotta’s words, is resolved in the «primacy of politics», as the only possible coherent answer to the theoretical and practical problems posed by a certain conception of man and existence. It is with the Christian message that in human history enters the idea that the political power is not the master of the conscience, nor is the power to judge the conscience, but the conscience of every man to judge political power.
