Reconstructing much of Gustave Flaubert's literary journey, Sartre elaborates an original philosophical interpretation of the anthropology and psychoanalysis of the family in an existentialist key. In the Idiot de la famille, an impressive work left unfinished and published posthumously, there is an exemplification of the subject of the human being as a universal Singular, illustrated by the Questions de méthode. Critically resuming some salient passages of the psychic constitution of the child, non-speaking Flaubert, this article focuses in particular on the modern reconfiguration of medicine: starting from being an integral part of a more comprehensive approach to the human being, medicine moves towards an expertise at the service of an intellectualistic project. This reading lays the foundations of a possible overall reconsideration of modern science, which for some disturbing aspects presents itself as practice that makes its criteria of truth on operational effectiveness. This truth is indifferent to a normative dimension that transcends empirical data, and therefore indifferent to law.
