In this study the major characteristics of the CORINE Land-Cover Program are described. As an example the map of the Biferno River Basin is presented with IV level legend for natural and seminatural typologies. The Biferno Basin is characterised through a quantitative land cover analyses with major emphasis on forest classes. This map represents a base document for further analyses and it contains ecological information for hypothesis of development, for resource management at different scale and for land monitoring.
