In this article I briefly consider the relationship between the phenomenon known as 'transgenderism' and the notion of 'self-care', within the broader issue of individual identity, particularly 'gender identity'. I first separately analyze some relevant aspects of 'self-care' and 'transgenderism'. Secondly, I consider the possible conflict between transgenderism and self-care taking it back to individual identity understood as an outcome of the constant demands for identification by the part of context in which the individual is situated. My core thesis is that the individual alone should be in charge of defining what self-care is and the most effective strategies to its realization. From a cultural and political viewpoint, this implies a shift in the attitude towards the notion of identity, gender, and diversity.
