For the last twenty years, an increasing number of people has asked the debt cancellation for developing countries as radical solution to sovereign debt crises. Also the World Bank and the IMF believe that removing debt overhang is essential to alleviate world poverty and to incentive economic growth. However, there is still disagreement among economists concerning the impact of debt forgiveness on the economic performances. This paper aims to study the external debt crisis of developing countries, focusing on both causes that determined illiquidity and insolvency in international markets and solutions adopted by international institutions.

Abstract
For the last twenty years, an increasing number of people has asked the debt cancellation for developing countries as radical solution to sovereign debt crises. Also the World Bank and the IMF believe that removing debt overhang is essential to alleviate world poverty and to incentive economic growth. However, there is still disagreement among economists concerning the impact of debt forgiveness on the economic performances. This paper aims to study the external debt crisis of developing countries, focusing on both causes that determined illiquidity and insolvency in international markets and solutions adopted by international institutions.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
