In this paper, literary, archaeological and epigraphic sources on nurses and medical assistants active in the civil and military have been collected and analysed in order to understand what kind of people have covered this role and when. A special attention has been paid on valetudinaria of wealthy houses and urban camps as places where tools were kept and where a first assistance was lent to the sick and wounded. The purpose, in this second case, is to verify if it were independent buildings or, rather, dedicated areas within a more extended complex.

Abstract
In this paper, literary, archaeological and epigraphic sources on nurses and medical assistants active in the civil and military have been collected and analysed in order to understand what kind of people have covered this role and when. A special attention has been paid on valetudinaria of wealthy houses and urban camps as places where tools were kept and where a first assistance was lent to the sick and wounded. The purpose, in this second case, is to verify if it were independent buildings or, rather, dedicated areas within a more extended complex.File in questo prodotto:
