The 1859 was an important year for Italy to become an united State worthy to be in the sight of the main European States. This essay tells about the Tuscany events, because the revolution in the Lorena Grand Duchy was essential to become a modern and united state. Coeval sources (correspondences, journals, printed material) are used to study the months of this hard times when the Tuscany ruling class decided of leaving loyalty to the Grand Duke to turn into earnest promoters about the union with Piedmont.
