The recent edition of one of the most ancient known vernacular transations of the 'Golden Legend' (Genoa, end of the 13th century, transcribed in the MS 1008 of the BM of Tours) is an occasion for a comparison with the Lstin text. The Tours translation is particularly important not only for its antiquity but also for having been transcribed in the Genoa prison during (or a little after) the episcopate of James of Voragine. The comparison and the differences between the vernacular and the Latin versions allows the proposal of some hypothesis about the genesis of some changes and errors in the translation and about the technique utilized by the translators. Abstract

A full description of the Tours manuscript is also given
