Comunicare l’architettura: modello fisico e modello digitale, una lettura comparativa

Two tools can be used to convey a design idea: graphic representation and models, an expressive medium that has evolved radically and has led not only to the creation of several different types, but also to the use of all sorts of materials during their construction, from atoms to bits. Deciding which model to use is apparently left to chance, in other words it depends on the temporary empathy of the designer rather than the traits of a model. This paper provides historical and technical data about models in order to spark further considerations and clarify any doubts about its real ability to communicate.

Tra gli strumenti atti a divulgare l’idea progettuale oltre alla rappresentazione grafica c’è quella plastica. Un mezzo espressivo che ha maturato una evoluzione straordinaria che lo ha portato a gemmare tipologie e nella costruzione a sperimentare ogni sorta di materiale, passando anche dagli atomi ai bits. Ebbene, nella condizione attuale pare che la scelta di quale modello concretizzare sia lasciata al caso, segua cioè più l’empatia temporanea del progettista che le peculiarità dello strumento. Il saggio propone notizie storiche e tecniche sul modello per sollecitare spunti riflessivi nell’intento di contribuire a fugare i dubbi circa la sua reale capacità comunicativa.
