Recognition is a key theme in philosophical discourse, from Hegel to contemporary thought, but it also plays a foundational role in linguistic and communicative practices. After examining the etymological value of the term and of the two Italian words derived from the same root (disconoscimento and misconoscimento), the scholar explores recognition in three distinct domains: as a logical-cognitive prerequisite for language development in infants; as a socio-communicative condition for the establishment of interpersonal interaction; and as a socio-political premise for the collective and individual life within national and international contexts.
