My attention focuses on the epigraphic clues of the presence of the Severan Emperors in the southern Etruria area. Speaking of otium regarding the Severans may appear an historical oxymoron; it also can be a way of investigating their period of reign from a different perspective. It’s about understanding if and to what extent the periods of their stay in Rome left room for otium; and if these parentheses, intended as absence or moderate involvement in political and administrative commitments, also had suburban residences (and in particular one of them, the residence ‘ad Baccanas’) as a background.

Abstract
My attention focuses on the epigraphic clues of the presence of the Severan Emperors in the southern Etruria area. Speaking of otium regarding the Severans may appear an historical oxymoron; it also can be a way of investigating their period of reign from a different perspective. It’s about understanding if and to what extent the periods of their stay in Rome left room for otium; and if these parentheses, intended as absence or moderate involvement in political and administrative commitments, also had suburban residences (and in particular one of them, the residence ‘ad Baccanas’) as a background.File in questo prodotto:
