PRESENZA DI GIURISDIZIONI BAIULARI NEL QUATERNUS EXCADENCIARUM CAPITINATE E COMPOSIZIONE DISTRETTUALE DEI FEUDI IN ETÀ NORMANNA

Drafted around the mid-13th century, the Quaternus excadenciarum Capitinate recorded properties in the Capitanata province that belonged to the royal domain by right of confiscation or by death without legitimate heirs of the previous possessors. Among the properties surveyed also appear patrimonial complexes, composed of drawing rights and seigniorial jurisdictions, which before their confiscation were as many fiefs. The aim of the present work is to use the data returned by the Quaternus to attempt a reconstruction of the size of the fiefdom in Norman times, highlighting its character as a district jurisdiction.

Compilato intorno alla metà del XIII sec. il Quaternus excadenciarum Capitinate aveva lo scopo di censire i beni che nella Capitanata afferivano al demanio regio per diritto di confisca o per morte senza eredi legittimi dei precedenti possessori. Tra i beni registrati figurano però anche complessi patrimoniali, costituiti da diritti di prelievo signorile e giurisdizioni, che prima del loro incameramento costituivano altrettanti feudi. Lo scopo di questo contributo è quello di utilizzare i dati restituiti dal Quaternus per tentare una ricostruzione della composizione del feudo in età normanna, evidenziandone il carattere distrettuale.
