The history of the Special Olympics movement was born, coincides and evolves, with the international path towards greater visibility of the rights of people with intellectual disabilities, and their full inclusion in sports. Since 1946, different agents and agencies have worked to achieve the full integration of people with disabilities in the world of sports. This fact enabled a new way of experiencing sports competitions and the education of bodies as true inclusive encounters between differences without discrimination, where one seeks to overcome rivalries and competition among the strongest through a climate of playful integration in which everyone gets special recognition. In a broader sociocultural context, this integration process is marked by the search for a fairer and more plural world. None of this could have been possible without a change in the prevailing conceptions of disability, corporeality, and the very meaning of modern Olympism.

Abstract
None of this could have been possible without a change in the prevailing conceptions of disability, corporeality, and the very meaning of modern Olympism.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
