The paper illustrates the results of the first investigations carried out as part of two ongoing research projects of national interest (PRIN). The studies indicated above concern in particular a critical review of the place-based approach, on which also the National Strategy for Inner Areas (SNAI) is based, as well as the highlighting of the most useful urban bioregional perspectives for overcoming their limits; with a specific focus on the role of communities in the sustainable management of territorial heritage, almost completely neglected in the 2030 Agenda.
