This article presents the preliminary results of the Maasser el-Shouf Archaeological Project (MeSAP) obtained during the first two archaeological campaigns carried out in 2018 and 2019 on the site of Qalaat el-Hosn in Maasser el-Shouf (Higher Shouf). The two seasons were performed combining traditional survey methodologies, non- invasive techniques and pre-conservation activities. The project aimed at the investigation of a partially visible monumental structure, the definition of the site’s extension, and the identification of numerous archaeological evidence. The activities accomplished during these campaigns allowed identifying the main visible ruin as a Roman temple (Area A), detecting a possible settlement area (Area B), and documenting a considerable number of rock-cut tombs, working areas and quarries. The survey implemented in Area A and Area B presented a large concentration of pottery and archaeological artefacts. The collection and study of this material allowed to outline the site’s different occupation phases, dating back so far, to the Roman, Byzantine, and post-antique periods.
