The paper concerns an incomplete marble slab, written on both sides and kept in the Cathedral of Monterotondo (Rome). The slab bears on the recto a Late Antique epi- gram, on the verso the dedication of a church from 1152. On this occasion, after sug- gesting and illustrating some possible additions to the text, I will try to comment the epigram, following the vicissitudes of the slab and the movements it suffered, related to the events of the cult buildings of Monterotondo and its territory between the twelfth and seventeenth centuries. For this purpose, it will be essential to consider the contents of both sides of the plate, so far examined only separately. My essay will only partially deal with the linguistic and literary aspects of the ancient texts, already widely discussed elsewhere.
