When the dense presence of soldiers in Aquileia is stressed, the attention is paid to the legionaries and the soldiers of the urban troops. A short lighthouse on soldiers and knights of the cohorts and squadrons of cavalry was lit in 1988, when Denis Saddington edited two inscriptions of auxiliaries and reflected on the reasons of their stay in the city. Aim of the paper is the contextualization of the presence of these soldiers in Aquileia. Under consideration are taken only texts that testify to the passage of a unit (or a detachment), in relation to various reasons (a military campaign, an episode related to imperial succession, the existence of a garrison).
