A Geographic Information System can not be efficient if it doesn’t offer the solution to the problem of the data-transfer and the services based on the interaction of different systems. To reach this aim, it’s possible to use different methodologies: data transfer with internal format, with standard format, with model driven approach or interoperability (OGC). In this paper we will describe the characteristics, the advantages and the limits of the different solutions and we will explain examples of data transfer with the model driven approach, using the modern languages UML, INTERLIS2 and marking the necessity of a semantic transformation for the database schema.

Abstract

A Geographic Information System can not be efficient if it doesn’t offer the solution to the problem of the data-transfer and the services based on the interaction of different systems. To reach this aim, it’s possible to use different methodologies: data transfer with internal format, with standard format, with model driven approach or interoperability (OGC). In this paper we will describe the characteristics, the advantages and the limits of the different solutions and we will explain examples of data transfer with the model driven approach, using the modern languages UML, INTERLIS2 and marking the necessity of a semantic transformation for the database schema.
