This paper examines the painted decoration of Hypogeum E in the Catacomb of St Januarius in Naples, one of the earliest areas of the complex. By combining stylistic, topographical and documentary evidence, the study reconstructs the excavation phases, architectural layout and figurative features of paintings long neglected due to conservation and accessibility issues. Dated to the first half of the 3rd century, the decoration reveals strong connections with Vesuvian traditions and Roman models, offering new insights into late antique funerary painting and site enhancement.
