Abstract

In Venafro, a flourishing Roman centre of Regio I Latium et Campania, in the present-day province of Isernia, in 1991, during the renovation of the church of San Giovanni in Platea, now San Francesco, numerous fragments of frescoes from the Roman period came to light beneath the floor of the sacred building. The restoration and recomposition of a group of them, exhibited in the museum, made it possible to recognise the existence of two phases of the wall decoration of a rich domus, both of significant iconographic commitment, realised by adopting innovative technical solutions.
