This work aims to present a research on youth language among high school students in Torino (Italy), especially with regard to the increasing presence of loanwords from languages and dialects other than Italian. The research was conducted through a questionnaire designed to collect various kinds of loanwords (administered in two stages, in 2015 and in 2021, for a total of more than 2000 respondents) and by means of a small corpus of 32 WhatsApp conversations collected to check the effective use of the loanwords identified in the questionnaire. Students indicated loanwords from English and Spanish, but also from other languages such as Japanese or Italian regional languages: all source languages but Italian are considered in Italian youth language as prestigious linguistic codes. The open lexical section of the questionnaire showed that young people in Turin, especially males, use fictive kinship when talking to a male friend (bro, fra, zio), while girls prefer love terms when addressing their female friends.
