The aim of our contribution is to present and discuss some practical situations involving the need for control and security in the cities or in the territory of Italy in Roman imperial era, to confirm the picture of diversity and versatility of possible solutions. The target areas are those of a ‘frontier’ area (Arusmates), of a port city (Ostia), of a key junction for connections between the center and south areas of Italy and between the Tyrrhenian, Ionian and Adriatic sides (Grumentum) .
