Because of its close links with the environmental, landscape and socio-economic dimensions of the areas involved, transhumance has always been an object of transversal study; the perspective we adopt here is oriented towards the study of the processes by which human societies link the environments and resources present on the earth's surface, integrating them into their own transformations and creating a relational space, i.e. a space defined and modified by human interactions and relations between events. From a millenary pastoral practice, transhumance is now seen as a potential resource for inland and rural Europe against depopulation and as a regenerative activity for the landscape, which can also take the form of an ecosystem service. Is it possible to adopt an operational approach to transhumance routes and their heritage, which could represent an effective opportunity to reconnect mountain and plain in a relational space projected into the future as well as rooted in the past? This thematic issue attempts to answer this question by offering a variety of paths and suggestions, based on the methods of geographical analysis.

Abstract
This thematic issue attempts to answer this question by offering a variety of paths and suggestions, based on the methods of geographical analysis.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
