The paper examines the theory of the tragic and the conception of Greek tragedy by K.W.F. Solger, one of the central figures in the aesthetics of German idealism. Also known as a translator of Sophocles, Solger develops, from a historical-philological background, a reflection on the tragic conflict that occupies an intermediate position between the Romantic model of interpretation of Greek tragedy and Hegel's philosophy of the tragic. The subject of the analysis is in particular the interaction between the interpretation of tragedies and the role of the tragic dialectic in the shaping of Solger's theory of art.

Abstract

The paper examines the theory of the tragic and the conception of Greek tragedy by K.W.F. Solger, one of the central figures in the aesthetics of German idealism. Also known as a translator of Sophocles, Solger develops, from a historical-philological background, a reflection on the tragic conflict that occupies an intermediate position between the Romantic model of interpretation of Greek tragedy and Hegel's philosophy of the tragic. The subject of the analysis is in particular the interaction between the interpretation of tragedies and the role of the tragic dialectic in the shaping of Solger's theory of art.
