This paper offers a summary of the Roman economy from the first to the third century A.D., focusing on money, imperial budget and taxation, on the relationship between town and country, on the aspects of production and trade of goods and foodstuffs. The last part of the paper is dedicated to the crisis of the imperial organism and the different strategies used by the emperor to deal with it until its climax in the final decades of the third century A.D.
Il lavoro delinea un quadro dell’economia romana nei primi tre secoli dell’impero, focalizzando l’attenzione su moneta, bilancio e tassazione, sul rapporto città e campagna, sugli aspetti della produzione e distribuzione di merci e derrate. L’ultima parte del lavoro è dedicata alla crisi dell’organismo imperiale e alle diverse strategie utilizzate dall’imperatore per fare fronte ad essa fino al suo culmine nei decenni finali del III secolo d.C.
