The relationship between health and social inequalities is very close and concerns multidimensional aspects that the sociological discipline has been trying to investigate since its origins, also in the light of ongoing changes such as globalization, access to digitization, precarization processes, economic, environmental and social crises (also in terms of Welfare and social policies, trust/confidence and crisis in European institutions and Member States), wars, pandemics, family transformations and population aging, in a condition of widespread social insecurity. Therefore, my contribution aims to focus on the concept of health in its sociological, holistic meaning, synonymous with well-being and, in our case, more appropriately with (possible) ill-being in terms of inequalities, poverty and poverty risk, vulnerability, social exclusion, access to care and assistance systems and the impact of Covid-19, reporting some reference data for both the European and Italian contexts.
