The paper reexamines the traces of land division that mark today’s landscape in the plain north of the Roman city of Saepinum, intended in the past as vestiges of a Roman centuriation. Examination of early 19th century cartography shows, however, that these traces are to be attributed to a 19th century agrarian parcelization. In more broad terms, the problem arises of the effective recognizability of Roman land divisions in predominantly hilly areas such as the Pentrian territory is.
Il contributo riesamina le tracce di divisione agraria che marcano il paesaggio odierno nella piana a nord della città romana di Saepinum, intese in passato come resti della centuriazione romana. L’esame della cartografia di inizi ’800 mostra, invece, che tali tracce sono da attribuire ad una quotizzazione ottocentesca. In termini più generali, si pone il problema della effettiva riconoscibilità delle divisioni agrarie romane in aree prevalentemente collinari come è il territorio pentro.
