The focus of the chapter is on the wealthy gens of the Neratii, which went back to an obscure figure of the Augustan age and achieved senatorial status under Vespasian, between the second and the fourth centuries AD. Our research traces the sources (mainly archaeological and epigraphical) that reveal the wealth of the Neratii; and discusses the developments and transformations of the building activity of the Neratii throughout time and space, between urban and rural areas, in Samnium and in Rome.
