The chapter reports on four case studies of coastal and sub-mountain vegetation changes where urbanisation and intensification of agriculture is taking place on the lower plains and coasts while the abandonment of both cultivated and forested land is occurring on the surrounding hills. Furthermore, in the sub-mountain study site recent changes resulted in a wide abandonment of fields and grassland.
