The knights of Malta were among the major feudatory clergymen of the Neapolitan Kingdom. Located in strategic position from the defensive – military standpoint, on the borders or along the cost, the majority of their feuds, in the middle of modern age, carried out an important role of organisation and territory defence resulting key to a total stabilization process of the political situation. In particular the paper analyzes the typology of the Order Castles, some of them being in perfect military efficiency , others, during the years, having got more and more the aspect of exclusive houses.
