This article deals with the analysis of spatial organisation patterns as a means of highliting certain trends connected to specific social dynamics, notably the horizontal and vertical articulations (gender, age, status). Spatial information concerning the cemeteries of Pontecagnano during the orientalising period (last quarer of VIIIth-VII th c.BC) was managed by GIS System. More specifically we applied he nearest neighbour algorithm to specific funerary areas to calculate the minimum distance of each tomb from the others. This value highlights the presence of sizable respect areas between tombs. This pattern of organisation may suggest the existence of tumuli.

Abstract
This article deals with the analysis of spatial organisation patterns as a means of highliting certain trends connected to specific social dynamics, notably the horizontal and vertical articulations (gender, age, status). Spatial information concerning the cemeteries of Pontecagnano during the orientalising period (last quarer of VIIIth-VII th c.BC) was managed by GIS System. More specifically we applied he nearest neighbour algorithm to specific funerary areas to calculate the minimum distance of each tomb from the others. This value highlights the presence of sizable respect areas between tombs. This pattern of organisation may suggest the existence of tumuli.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
