Abstract

The recycling of materials was already present in the manuals of the 18th and 19th centuries before the industrial revolution caused operators to lose interest. The techniques were the result of building site practice, in some cases dictated by a lack of financial resources, and in any case they performed well in terms of good overall building quality. In addition to the industrial revolution, the new technology relating to reinforced concrete architecture in the twentieth century led to the formal abandonment of these solutions, which in the last twenty years of the last century saw a resurgence of a certain importance, this time scientifically, leading to the first experiments with concrete using recycled aggregates in seismic areas. A further possible development of research is the interface of constructions with recycled materials with diversified technologies for seismic safety, such as exoskeletons and nanotechnologies.
