Abstract

In this article a brief reconstruction of the movement known as Paneuropa and founded by Richard Nikolaus Eijiro Count of Coudenhove-Kalergi is offered, at the aim to show that it may contribute to contemporary academic and public discourses on the notion of “European identity”. As a matter of fact, some basic ideas underlying this specific cultural and political project, though of course to be read in the light of the historical situation and the intellectual discourses of the interwar period, are still to be found in today’s mainstream understandings of the notion of ‘European identity’ and the cultural and political projects they give birth to.
