Dal Pensiero selvaggio al Sistema di politica positiva: riproporre tutto Lévi-Strauss per rileggere tutto Comte

In the last edition of The Savage Mind, unfortunately still not available in Italian language, Lévi-Strauss rereads Comte, recuperating in particular the ideas expressed in his last great work, the System of Positive Polity. As reinterpreted by Lévi-Strauss, Comte, the theorist of fetishism, becomes the forerunner of structural anthropology (the complete translation of the chapter devoted to fetishism in System of Positive Polity is in appendix to this article). Fetishism, revealed in Comte’s final work to have a fundamental affinity with positivism, is far from being a primitive stage of development destined for the archives of humanity; it lives again in the present, as does the “savage thought” of the great French anthropologist. Nell’ultima edizione del Pensiero selvaggio, purtroppo a tutt’oggi indisponibile in lingua italiana, Lévi-Strauss rilegge Comte recuperando in particolare il pensiero espresso da quest’ultimo nella sua ultima grande opera, il Sistema di politica positiva. Il Comte teorico del feticismo (in appendice al presente contributo si riporta la traduzione integrale del capitolo da lui dedicato al feticismo nel Sistema di politica positiva) diventa, nella “rilettura” di Lévi-Strauss, l’antesignano della sua antropologia strutturale: il feticismo, che nell’ultimo Comte rivela una fondamentale affinità col positivismo, è ben lungi dall’essere uno stadio primitivo destinato agli archivi dell’umanità; esso rivive anzi nel presente, così come il “pensiero selvaggio” del grande antropologo francese.
