The scientific intention of anatomical specimens has always been characterized for the dual educational and informative function. In particular, in the museums the moments of formation and information result often overlapped in the interlacement of professional demands and social needs. The anatomical specimen, in past ages, as in recent ones, is very attractive in those aspects that represent death in a spectacular way. During the considered period, however, the didactis and educational value of the different and of the deformed prevails, resulting in a clear and predictive social pedagogy that instructs to the new rules of hygiene.

Abstract

The scientific intention of anatomical specimens has always been characterized for the dual educational and informative function. In particular, in the museums the moments of formation and information result often overlapped in the interlacement of professional demands and social needs. The anatomical specimen, in past ages, as in recent ones, is very attractive in those aspects that represent death in a spectacular way.
