The volume fills a gap in the absence of systematic and interdisciplinary studies on medieval Brindisi. Based on the analysis of natural features and historical changes of the environment has been rebuilt, thanks to the archaeological findings and archival documents, the peculiar phenomena of the urban evolution from medieval Norman-Swabian kingdom. The need to return to historical identity and image of a city built on the southern border of the great continental powers of the European Middle Ages made ​​it possible to document the vicissitudes of the Episcopal, its real role as a maritime city, its weight in the political logic of the Mediterranean real and ideal at the border with the East, economic arrangements, subjects and actors in the articulation cetuale city life.

Abstract

The volume fills a gap in the absence of systematic and interdisciplinary studies on medieval Brindisi.
